SUMMARY
In efforts to curb poverty in Lesotho, the country through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 has committed to the universal old age scheme in 2004. Unlike in most countries, in Lesotho, the eligibility age for an old age pension is 70 years and beyond. However, there is a sense that the size and the high eligibility age relative to the country’s life expectancy ineffectively alleviate poverty.
