In efforts to curb poverty in Lesotho, the country through the Universal Declaration of Human rights of 1948 has committed to the universal old age scheme in 2004. Unlike most countries, Lesotho has a very high eligibility age of 70 years and above. However, there is a sense that the size and the high eligibility age relative o the low life expectancy ineffectively alleviate poverty.
