Child labor exploitation in Mexico

In Mexico, at least 20 adolescents and children between the ages of 1 and 17 years old from Chiapas were rescued from a quartería in the Colonia Centro of Playa del Carmen, in Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, where they had been deprived of their freedom, victims of labor exploitation


Authorities found the children in bad conditions, dirty, poorly dressed and with the appearance of malnutrition, so they were taken to the DIF (Sistema Nacional para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia) for safekeeping. The children worked unpaid days from eight in the morning until eight at night selling on the streets. indicated that they were recruited by a person in Chiapas, who brought them here under false pretenses, promising them work, a better life and that the money they earned would be sent to their parents or kept for them.
