May 2023 has seen one of the biggest drought in the kajiado county,Kenya. Unlike most of the drought seasons we saw many livestock's and lives lost due to very bad drought case that saw most of the counties in Kenya recieving Rians between 75mm-11mm of rain in the month of may. Most people in kajiado were forced to sell their livestock's at a throw away price so that the can at least sustain a living and to at least make a living out of their almost dead animals.
Another area that is hit by drought every year in Kenya is the northern parts of Kenya. The drought in the northern region is the most harsh droughts expérienced in Kenya in every year. We find that this year alone almost 5.4 million Kenyans were estimated to be affected harshly by the drought. Most of these communities are nomard communities dealing with small scale farmers and livestock keepers and this forces them to migrate into different places within the countries looking for greener pastures for their animals.
At the same time we find that if it's rainy season most of the Kenyans are affected by flood especially the northern part of Kenya again. We find that most of the times Kenya expériences extrême weather changes that is during rainy season it's a lot and floods are experienced all over the country. And most people loose their homes to rains and floods as they are forces to run away so as to seek shelters as theirs are normally swept by heavy rains.
Though there are many measures put in places to try and mitigate the climatic changes such as different reserves such as dams, that help in water restorations during the rainy seasons and this helps during the drought seasons and also introduction of drought resistant crops that can persist the extreme droughts.
