Summary
With a focus on Hungary, Poland, and other countries in the region, the text analyzes the state of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Poland and Hungary serve as case studies for democratic erosion, which is characterized by a concentration of power and a weakening of liberal democratic norms. In contrast, the paths taken by Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania in the process of consolidating democracy have varied, with some of them encountering difficulties and problems like corruption. The CEE region exhibits a complex landscape of democratic development, with differences in the effectiveness of governance and democracy.
