Summary

Freedom of expression has been increasingly curtailed recently, particularly online, in Central Asia. Broad laws, blocked media websites, legal actions against journalists, and arrests for online activities prevent citizens from participating in politics online, which is a vital space for civic engagement. Tajikistan recently made improvements to court information access, but there are still some gaps. Concerns about online privacy still exist, particularly for women. Without a clear legal justification, government interference disrupts the internet. For Central Asia's online freedom of expression to be safeguarded, these issues must be resolved.
