Summary

Gender equality in the Middle East and Africa faces substantial challenges despite some progress. In the Middle East and North Africa, women’s participation in education and politics has increased, but labor force participation remains low due to entrenched patriarchal norms and gender-based violence​ (UNICEF)​​ (UNICEF)​. Sub-Saharan Africa similarly struggles with gender-based violence and limited access to education and economic opportunities for women. Initiatives by organizations like UNICEF and UN Women focus on policy reforms and community engagement to promote gender equality and empower women and girls​ (UN Women)​.
