The Russo-Ukraine War is the first major war in Europe in decades, and with this unprecedented modern conflict comes unprecedented global impacts that in our previously less globalized world would not have been as potentially devastating. While this war creates a myriad of alarming disruptions to the international economic order, one, in particular, goes under-reported in the West. Ukraine is a major supplier of many grain food products globally, such as wheat and corn. Ukraine accounts for 10% and 15% of the world's supply, respectively. Unfortunately, this large market share isn't spread equally globally. Many Middle-Eastern and African nations disproportionally rely on Ukraine for their wheat and corn imports and cannot afford a spike in price or disruption in supply.
