Health inequities are differences in health status or in the distribution of health resources among different population groups, resulting from the social conditions in which people are born, grow up, live, work and age. Health inequalities are unfair and could be reduced with the right mix of government policies. We need more health equity so that everyone has a fair and equal opportunity to achieve their highest level of health. Around the world we can see the extent of health inequities. Equitable health should not be a privilege, but an obligation for every country, region, city or province, because all human beings deserve it, regardless of race, age, gender or nationality.
