The Horn of Africa, a region in northeastern Africa encompassing countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and parts of Sudan and Kenya, is a diverse and geopolitically significant area facing a range of challenges and opportunities. With its distinct landscapes and climatic conditions, the region is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
The 2020–2023 drought will have a devastating effect that will last for years. More than 2.7 million people have been displaced, and more than 13 million animals have perished, devastating livelihoods (UNFPA, 2023). The impacts of climate change on the youth population in the Horn of Africa are significant, affecting their standard of living, present well-being, and future prospects.
They face challenges such as disrupted access to education due to climate-related disasters, limited employment opportunities in sectors affected by climate change, the burden of inheriting a degraded environment, and soaring rates of child marriage.
