How is the Drought in the Horn of Africa Affecting Children and Women?
Author: Erin Meighan
Country: Canada
Summary
Since 2020, the Horn of Africa has faced an ongoing crisis due to severe drought. It has devastated agriculture in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. This has led to widespread food insecurity and malnutrition, affecting millions. Rain, though beneficial, has brought flash floods and increased transmission of many diseases. At a greater disadvantage, are women, as they are deprived of proper nutrition and maternal care to safely bear a child. Gender-based violence has also risen, impacting women and girls. With inadequate humanitarian aid, recovery is expected to take years.
