International Conference on Economic and Monetary Sovereignty of Africa

OCTOBER 25, 2022, marks the last day of the forum on peace and security in Africa held in Dakar. another event of the same scale takes place on the same date in the Senegalese capital, more precisely at the Museum of Black African Civilizations on the same date.

This is the second edition of the international conference on the economic and monetary sovereignty of Africa organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, International Development Economics Associates (IDEAs).

For three days, researchers, activists and decision-makers discussed issues related to the development of African states with the theme "Facing the socio-ecological crisis: the news of disconnection and the question of global reparations"

The economist Ndongo Samba Sylla, also co-organizer of this conference, returns to the objective of this meeting, which according to him would be to initiate an open exchange that will intimately lead to promising tracks for the continent and in general for people around the world and it is in this spirit that they intend to set up a form of declaration to show what they propose as well as their vision.

a presentation on illicit financial flows from Africa was made by Souad Aden-Osman. Returning to the 3 components of illicit financial flows (trade flows 60 to 65%, criminal flows 30 to 35% and corruption 3 to 5%), the researcher relied on the latest report of the Economic Commission for Africa estimating this shortfall of around 80 to 100 billion dollars per year for the continent. Faced with the constant evolution of this phenomenon, Souad Aden-Osman believes that it is the responsibility of all actors in society to invest in putting an end to it.
