SUMMARY

The alcohol consumption situation in Portuguese-speaking countries, which include nations where Portuguese is the official or widely spoken language, can vary significantly from one country to another due to cultural, socioeconomic and health policy differences. In all these countries, there are ongoing efforts to balance the cultural tradition of alcohol consumption with public health risks. Alcohol control policies vary from country to country, with some governments implementing stricter regulations, awareness campaigns and treatment programs for alcohol abuse. With the project taking place in São Tomé, the initiative will also continue to Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique, first for the diagnosis of alcohol and drug consumption habits, and then for awareness-raising and prevention actions among young people. In Guinea-Bissau, Health.com Africa will take on other forms to combat female genital mutilation.
