Summary

Torture involves inflicting intense physical or mental pain to extract information or enforce compliance. The physical agony leads to long-lasting physical scars and chronic pain. The psychological impact of torture can result in post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and a constant sense of fear. Comparatively, losing a loved one, severe betrayal, and extreme phobias can also cause intense emotional distress. Torture tends to affect individuals differently: some tend to endure the extreme consequences of being tortured; others experience minor injuries of torture while others end up being immune to the pain. It is very crucial that individuals and communities acknowledge the negative effects of torture and as a result condemn it and severely punish those that are responsible for torturing others.
