SUMMARY
Globally, the emergence and spread of a new invisible enemy (COVID-19) cause not only significant resource losses, population deaths, and strain on healthcare systems, but also a burden on many other existing systems that support our well-being or daily existence in this world. On one hand, strict measures such as the closure of bars, restaurants, and other socializing spots were put in place to minimize the devastating impacts of this virus across all nations but on the other hand, practices like khat trading continued as usual or with little concern of closure in many parts of Ethiopia. Today, although several questions remain unanswered due to a lack of supporting evidence or research regarding the role of khat trading in the spread or mortalities due to COVID-19 infections, responsible authorities must urgently pay attention and address loopholes arising from practices leading to disease spread in their communities, thereby saving future generations from the impact of any other upcoming pandemics.
