Tension in West Africa is soaring, and we may see a large-scale conflict erupt between multiple nations in West Africa. Members of ECOWAS, or the Economic Community of West Africa, have given the military junta which recently took over Niger an ultimatum. Either restore President Mohamed Bazoum to power and resume democracy in the country or face a military intervention from member states of ECOWAS. Members of this bloc of countries consist of 15 member nations, some notably being Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Senegal, and most importantly, Niger. The recent coup in Niger has destabilized a significant player in ECOWAS, and other members are not happy. On August 6th, ECOWAS gave the Niger junta an ultimatum, as stated above. The Junta appears to be bent on ignoring this ultimatum, pushing West Africa to the brink of war.
