Rohingya Repatriation: Urgent Concerns Amidst Unaddressed Risks and Rights

Bangladesh and Myanmar are initiating the repatriation of Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to Myanmar's Rakhine State without adequate consultation with the refugee community or addressing the serious risks to their safety and well-being. Human Rights Watch highlights that the conditions in Myanmar are not conducive to safe and sustainable returns. The recent visit of 20 Rohingya refugees to resettlement camps in Myanmar, accompanied by Bangladeshi officials, is part of a pilot project aiming to repatriate around 1,100 Rohingya refugees. However, concerns about security, citizenship, and overall conditions persist, making their return a risky endeavor.
