Tamir Rice's name became etched in the annals of American history as a symbol of injustice and the need for police reform. The tragic death of this 12-year-old boy in 2014 shook the United States at its core and ignited a passionate debate about the excessive use of force by law enforcement. Today, Tamir Rice's legacy lives on as a catalyst for change, inspiring movements and reforms aimed at creating a more just and equitable society. The Tamir Rice Foundation obtained ownership of the gazebo where Tamir was killed from the city of Cleveland and his mother decided to preserve it to make sure her son is never forgotten. The gazebo was disassembled, moved to Chicago, and reconstructed by artist, Theaster Gates, and his Chicago-based organization, the Rebuild Foundation. On June 25th, Tamir’s 21st birthday party was held near the gazebo in its new Chicago home.
