In Sudan, approximately 6.9 million girls and boys, or one in every three school-aged children, do not attend school, and over 12 million will drop out of school as result of several circumstances related to socio-economic situation, conflicts and lack of providing suitable learning environment that will enable students to reach their full potential, According to the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International aid organisation (IAO) Save the Children in Sudan(SCI) who released a joint press statement .
With in beginning of each school year , Sudan had always been accompanied with a number of issues and long-term solutions are rarely provided, but not like the previous ones, it seems that this years academic year's issues are worse than any other time , following up the hard economical crises rising up which sets a grave threat to student and their parents leading to a collapse of an educations system around the whole nation.
The start date for the school this year was originally scheduled for September 18 but has been moved to October 2 , due to the circumstances in a large number of states affected by torrential rains and floods.families express concern about their children's fate in a school year that appears to be fraught with complications from the start.
The current high financial pressure in the country is also another problem facing citizens, allowing families to be unable to pay the high cost of school supplies and the unexpected fee increase in private schools in Khartoum (in some cases by up to 500 %), parents said that they have lost the desire to send their children to schools this year as a result of the economic conditions ,and they prefer to send their children to work rather than to study to empower the families financial situation
No country can afford to have one-third of its school-age children with no basic literacy, numeracy, or digital skills.
Education is not just a right – it’s also a lifeline,” says Mandeep O’Brien - UNICEF Representative in Sudan.
