Earlier this year, on April 15th, 2023, Sudan’s capital Khartoum was rocked by gunfire and bombs when clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid support forces (RSF) broke out. These two factions of the government are struggling for power at all costs, and fighting in the capital has claimed hundreds of civilian lives as army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan the commander of the SAF, and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the commander of the RSF, vied for power. When the conflict first broke out, it was all over Western news outlets, and updates came live. Daring rescue operations were conducted to evacuate foreign nationals from a wide variety of countries, such as the United States, France, Germany, and many others. The world must pay attention. Still, it seems since these daring operations and the last of the foreign nationals were evacuated from the country, western news coverage has all but dried up.
