Violence directed towards women is a significant societal issue, impacting the physical, sexual, mental, and social welfare of over a third of women globally. Intimate partner violence stands as the most prevalent form of such violence against women. Similar statistics on intimate partner violence can be observed in Ethiopia. This type of violence is typically described as deliberate and repeated actions that involve physical, sexual, psychological, emotional, or economic abuse. Besides causing a significant impact the overall well-being and life of women, it also has notable consequences on society and the economy.

Intimate partner violence in Ethiopia is influenced by various key factors. These factors include gender inequality, gender-based stereotypes, harmful traditional norms, the perception of power by the perpetrator, women's attitudes towards violence, and the socioeconomic status of the victims. In Ethiopia, one particularly alarming case of violence demonstrates the urgent need for action. Atsede Nigussie, a 26-year-old single mother, became a victim of a shocking acid attack perpetrated by her estranged husband. This incident highlights the pressing importance of tackling this issue effectively.
