Authors: Aayushi Srivastava

Country: India

Sugar has a long history in human consumption, with sugarcane dating back 8,000 years in Papua New Guinea. It's a simple carbohydrate found in various forms, including sucrose, fructose, and glucose. Excessive sugar intake is linked to health issues like obesity and diabetes. The human preference for sweetness has evolutionary origins, rooted in the abundance of sweet fruits in nature. However, the modern food industry exploits this preference with added sugars in processed foods. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, it's essential to reduce sugar intake by reading labels, choosing whole foods, and being mindful of sauces and snacks. Gradual reduction and support from professionals can also help curb sugar addiction.
