On Sunday 21st July 2024, newly appointed Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment in South Africa, Dr Dion George re-affirmed South Africa’s commitments to fight against climate change during his speech at the Brazil, South Africa, India and China(BASIC) Ministerial Meeting held in Wuhan, China (South Africa News, 2024). BASIC countries ministers whose portfolios are responsible for climate change and related matters gathered to bolster solidarity in their negotiations around the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement in preparation for the Conference of the Parties (COP 29). The ministerial meeting was held ahead of the 8th Ministerial on Climate Action(MoCA) Meeting held in China on the 22nd - 23rd July 2024.
