The Fight for Women’s Rights Amid the Yemen Civil War
Author: Erin MeighanOntario, Canada
Summary
For the past decade, Yemen has been facing a civil war fought between the government of Yemen and the Houthi. This armed, Islamic group has taken over much of the country and has been behind hundreds of thousands of innocent deaths.
From bombing attacks to restricting aid to overcome food insecurity, the country of Yemen is battling an existential humanitarian crisis. In spite of a large number of citizens requiring aid, prejudice views and a crumbling healthcare system have left women at a particularly greater disadvantage. Despite the aid offered from global humanitarian organizations and other countries, it does not appear this injustice is reaching an end.
