The Impossibility to Belong: Why the Karanas are Stateless?

Author: Mateo Gaute

The Karanas are a Muslim ethnic group who have lived in Madagascar since the ninth century. However, despite residing and working in the country, they are not permitted to obtain Malagasy nationality, leaving them as stateless individuals within their own homeland. This lack of recognition of their nationality results in the denial of numerous human rights by the government.
