The Right to Work for Refugees

Author: Patience Castleton

Country of Origin: Australia

SUMMARY:

Workplace injustices are prevalent and, sadly, extremely common worldwide. However, these injustices disproportionately impact refugee and migrant populations. With scarce job opportunities and discrimination at play, it is incredibly difficult and discouraging for migrants to gain jobs in their field of expertise when they are labelled a “refugee”.

These injustices must be followed up and rectified so that countries can celebrate and accept individuals from around the world into their job vacancies. Valuable skills and knowledge are being overlooked everyday in high-income countries and hundreds of refugees are sadly, fulfilling jobs significantly below their education level.
