Summary Access to clean water and sanitation is a fundamental human right, as recognized by the United Nations and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, despite progress, billions of people still lack safe water and proper sanitation facilities. This article explores the global challenges of water sanitation, with a focus on the Commonwealth countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. It discusses the impact of water scarcity, contamination, and open defecation on public health and highlights the UN's efforts to accelerate progress. Additionally, the article presents a case study of Sulabh International, an organization pioneering innovative solutions for sanitation reform, and its contributions to achieving SDG 6. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of collaboration and sharing best practices to address water sanitation challenges worldwide.
