SUMMARY

A food desert is an area where people have limited access to affordable, healthy food. This can be due to
many causes, such as a lack of grocery stores, farmers markets, or other sources of fresh produce.

Food deserts are often found in low-income communities and communities of color. This is because these
communities are more likely to be located in areas that are food deserts.
Food deserts can have a number of negative consequences for people's health. People who live in food
deserts are more likely to have chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.
