Summary
Denial of rest or leisure can have negative consequences on an individual’s physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It can lead to increased health risks, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, weakened immune function, chronic fatigue, and muscle weakness. Lack of rest also affects mental and emotional health, resulting in higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression, reduced self-esteem, isolation, and impaired cognitive functioning. Moreover, the lack of leisure time decreases productivity, job performance, creativity, problem-solving abilities, and work-life balance. It can also increase the risk of adopting unhealthy coping mechanisms and accidents due to decreased alertness and impaired cognitive function.
