SUMMARY
Health inequity is the unjust and avoidable differences in people's health across the population and between specific population groups. These differences can be caused by a variety of factors, including income, education, race, ethnicity, gender, and social status.
Health inequity is a global problem, but it is particularly pronounced in low- and middle-income countries. For example, a recent study found that the poorest 20% of people in the world have a life expectancy that is 16 years shorter than the richest 20%.
