The weakness in Ethiopia's legal system stems from various factors that have hindered its effectiveness and undermined the rule of law. One key reason can be attributed to the limited resources and capacity available to the legal institutions in the country. Insufficient funding and inadequate training of legal professionals have led to a shortage of qualified judges, prosecutors, and lawyers. This shortage has resulted in backlogs in the courts, delayed justice, and inequalities in access to legal representation.

Additionally, political interference and corruption have plagued the legal system, eroding public trust and confidence. The lack of an independent and impartial judiciary further compounds these issues. Furthermore, Ethiopia's complex and out-dated legal framework, combined with inconsistent enforcement, contributes to ambiguity and unpredictability in the legal system. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive reforms, including investment in legal education, increasing judicial independence, combating corruption, and modernizing legal frameworks to ensure equal access to justice for all Ethiopians.
