Women Empowerment in Africa

Author: BEDDA Hana

Author Origin: Algeria

Despite progress in establishing gender equality norms, Africa still faces challenges in fully realizing women's rights and addressing underlying structural inequalities. The "What African Women Want" campaign by the African Union aims to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. The UN Women project in Bugiri District, Uganda, has transformed the lives of women through fish farming, promoting gender relations, reducing violence, and contributing to the national GDP. UN Women implements tailored programs to support women's participation in decision-making and end violence against women. The organization also focuses on promoting economic opportunities for women in Africa through critical policy dialogues and partnerships with financial institutions and the Economic Commission.
